Helping students access learning, participate in school, communicate, move, and develop independence.

Every student has unique strengths and needs. DCIU related services are designed to remove barriers to learning and help students participate as independently as possible in school.

Services may support students with:

  • Communication and language development
  • Mobility and movement
  • Fine motor and daily living skills
  • Vision and access to visual information
  • Hearing and listening skills
  • Assistive technology and specialized equipment
  • Access to classroom instruction and school activities

Related services are provided based on recommendations from a student's educational team and Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Services

DCIU related services are provided in a variety of educational settings, including DCIU classrooms and programs, public school districts, charter schools, approved private schools, and Early Intervention programs.

Service delivery, whether for a student attending their home school or referred to a DCIU classroom, is individualized based on each student's needs and educational goals.

District Referrals for School-Aged Students

If you are a family of a school-aged child, your child's school or district usually makes the referral to DCIU Student Services. Once a referral is made, our team will conduct an evaluation to determine the most suitable services and supports for the student.
