Bullying Prevention
An emotionally and physically safe environment provides a foundation for equity.
A successful bullying prevention program allows all students to access their education most fully in the safest environment possible. Research indicates that persistent bullying can lead to or worsen feelings of isolation, rejection, exclusion, and despair, as well as depression and anxiety. Bullying behavior proves detrimental to all involved, included both the student who bullies as well as the recipient of the behavior.
Bullying behavior most often targets students who might be perceived as different than the majority in any arena; research shows bullying often impacts students regarding appearance, sexual orientation, race or ethnicity, socioeconomic background, and school performance. Eliminating overt bullying behavior in a school underpins all other equity initiatives.
