Approval to support professional development opportunities for IU and District staff

  • Contract with Wilson Reading Systems for professional development on Fundations literacy program from August 5, 2020 to August 6, 2020.
  • Contract with Wilson Reading Systems for professional development on Just Words literacy program on August 26 and 27, 2020.
  • Partnership agreement with Code.org to provide professional development for kindergarten to twelfth-grade teachers throughout eastern Pennsylvania.

Approval of other grants, contracts, appointments and services

  • Appointment of the following during Board Reorganization
    • Ed Cardow, Chichester School District - President
    • Tracy Karwoski, Garnet Valley School District - Vice President
    • Tom Brown, Chief Operations Officer - Treasurer
    • Michael Puppio and the law firm of Raffaele Puppio LLP as general solicitor and special education counsel
    • Dr. Shellie Feola - Board Secretary
    • Chris Lombrana - Alternate Board Secretary
    • Joana Joi Hopkins, William Penn School District - PSBA Voting Delegate
  • The Intermediate Unit General Operating Budget for 2020-2021 has been approved by 15 school districts. The weighted vote on this budget is 513 ayes and 0 nays.
  • Twelve school districts have approved the election of the following individuals to serve as members on the Delaware County Intermediate Unit Board of Directors for the term July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2023:
    • Garnet Valley - Tracy Karwoski
    • Haverford - Susan Mingey
    • Marple Newtown - Barbara S. Harvey
    • Springfield - Margaret Rovinski
    • William Penn- -Joana Hopkins
  • Approve the 2020-2021 Intermediate Unit Government Funded Budgets in the amounts listed and the current budget figures for 2019-2020 as presented in the Consolidated Budgets/Program book.
  • Prefund the 2020-2021 healthcare insurance premiums with the Delaware County Public Schools Health Insurance Trust at an estimated cost of $6,562,336.00.

Approval to enhance student learning and work experience and support future educators

  • Approval to implement the Office of Workforce Development (OWD) year-round Youth Grant to employ 20 students from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021.
  • Contract with Gwynedd Mercy University to provide a qualified graduate student with an internship experience in the field of School Counseling from August 29, 2020 to June 12, 2021 (pending receipt of necessary clearances).
  • Purchase of three Nurse Anne Simulators from Laerdal, a sole source provider, using funds from the Pennsylvania Department of Education Supplemental Equipment Grant.
  • Articulation agreement with Neumann University for Biomedical Technology and Laboratory Sciences students to earn college credits, for those entering Neumann University’s 2020 spring semester and thereafter at no cost to DCTS.
  • Articulation agreement with Neumann University for Computer Networking and Digital Forensics, and Management Information Systems students to earn college credits effective as of date of signing, for those entering Neumann University’s 2020 spring semester and thereafter at no cost to DCTS.
