DCIU's Marple Education Center (MEC) will be holding a prom for students with special needs on Friday, May 13th from 7-9pm. The beach/boardwalk-themed prom is entitled "Night at the Beach PROMenade," It will be held in MEC's cafetorium, 85 N. Malin Road, Broomall, PA 19008.
As a community outreach event, students with special needs from four local high schools are invited to attend: Haverford, Penncrest, Marple Newtown and Springfield. Fun activities planned will include dancing to a DJ, socializing, winning prizes while playing adapted boardwalk-type games, crafts and interactive activities, photo booth and photo opportunities, along with eating yummy boardwalk style foods.
Approximately 80 high school volunteers have signed up to help. Many have been busy behind the scenes making centerpieces, decorations, posters, murals and signs. There will be a small army of volunteers on hand during the prom helping to decorate, run the games, activities, interact, socialize and dance with students. Many local businesses have donated money, food, prize items and DJ services.
