Vision and Orientation and Mobility Support
The DCIU Vision and Orientation and Mobility program provides services for Delaware County students, from birth through age 21, who are blind or visually impaired. Services are provided to approximately 150 students in 15 school districts as well as private schools. The program includes Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVI), Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists (COMS), and large print /Braille production staff and provides:

The quality and success of the Intermediate Unit’s Vision Program can also be proven by the accomplishments of its students:
- Functional Vision Assessments
- Orientation and Mobility Assessments
- Interpretation of medical information
- Consultation with school personnel
- Braille instruction and large print and Braille materials
- Instruction in visual efficiency, orientation and mobility
- Technology Support
- Expanded Core Curriculum
- A recipient of grant funds from CCRES, an Education and Behavioral Health Services Company whose mission is to ensure quality education and human service programs for children
- First in Delaware County area to provide regular low vision clinics at Morton, in collaboration with Salus University, and supported by CCRES Grant
- Development of the Pennsylvania Vision Consortium [PVC], a regional partnership whose members meet regularly to develop strategies to provide quality low vision services for youth to enhance their access in the home, school and community
- Large Print Library and short-term loan Assistive Technology Lending Library
- A Chichester student was selected as The Rotary Student of the Month.
- Two Springfield students were presented the annual D.A.R. Citizenship Award
- A Springfield student was selected to go to Washington D.C. for winning a National Essay Contest
- Numerous students in the Vision Department have gone on to four-year colleges and universities
