Aston Education Center
The DCIU Education Center, located in Aston, PA, serves students in grades K-12 with emotional and behavioral needs. The programs provide individual and small-group instruction along with behavioral support.Academic and social/emotional instruction are offered based on individual skills and needs. Students are supported using positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) and smaller class sizes to develop the skills to successfully return to their home school district. There is an interdisciplinary team that supports the students and their families.
The Community School provides full-time special education for students between kindergarten and eighth grade who have emotional and behavioral disabilities that require a higher level of support.
Delaware County Academy (DCA) offers instruction for secondary-level students who need a smaller setting to meet the requirements for graduation as indicated in their individualized education program.
Forward Bound is an intensive secondary emotional support program developed to meet the needs of a distinct population of students diagnosed with a mental health disorder who have been unsuccessful in previous school placements due to a history of treatments resulting in repeated breaks in their educational programming.

Does the student need an IEP to attend the program?
Yes, all students require an IEP to attend the programs.
What are the steps of the intake process?
1. The home school district administrator will complete and submit the referral application.
2. The assistant director of student services will review the referrals and forward any applicable ones to our program.
3. The interdisciplinary team reviews the referrals, making sure that all of the proper documentation has been submitted including ER/RR, FBA, IEP, PBSP, disciplinary records, manifestation determination, grades/transcripts, and attendance records.
4. If the interdisciplinary team decides that the student meets eligibility for one of the programs, a tour/intake will be set up. It is required that the student and parent/guardian attend in person.
5. If accepted, an official acceptance letter will be sent to the home school district. The home school district will coordinate transportation, issue a NOREP (parent/guardian must sign), and send immunizations prior to the student starting the program.

Who do I contact if my child is absent from the program?
If your child is absent, please call the front office at 610-938-9000 ext. 6101. An absence note will be required upon your child returning to school. All absence notes must be submitted within 3 days before it is considered an unexcused absence.
How is a referral made to the programs?
Parents must contact their child's district administrator to request a referral to our program. A referral application is completed and submitted by a home school district administrator.
