Vision and Orientation and Mobility Support
The DCIU Vision and Orientation and Mobility program provides services for Delaware County students, from birth through age 21, who are blind or visually impaired. Services are provided to approximately 150 students in 15 school districts as well as private schools. The program includes Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVI), Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists (COMS), and large print /Braille production staff.
Staff provide the following supports based on IEP team decisions and recommendations.
- Functional Vision Assessments
- Orientation and Mobility Assessments
- Interpretation of medical information
- Consultation with school personnel
- Braille instruction and large print and Braille materials
- Instruction in visual efficiency, orientation and mobility
- Technology Support
- Expanded Core Curriculum
- Large Print Library and short-term loan Assistive Technology Lending Library
