DCIU and DCTS Celebrate CTE Month in Delaware County!
The Delaware County Intermediate Unit (DCIU) proudly hosted its 2025 Career and Technical Education (CTE) Recognition event on February 20th at the Delaware County Technical School (DCTS) Aston campus.
The annual celebration, attended by local legislators, school district superintendents, members of the DCIU Board, the County’s Office of Workforce Development, and business and industry partners, highlighted student accomplishments and CTE programs, emphasizing the importance of CTE in preparing students for workforce success.
"Our CTE programs prepare students for the rapidly changing workforce. Through our state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, students gain industry skills and credentials," said Stephen Butz, Ed.D., Director of Career and Technical Education.
As part of the celebration, guests were given student-led tours of DCTS Aston’s classes, providing a personalized and firsthand look at CTE programs offered by DCIU. Visitors toured classes including Exercise Therapy & Sports Science, Culinary, Welding, Electrical, Dental, Cosmetology, Advertising Design, and Carpentry. Students shared insights into each class and their career paths in CTE.
After the guided tours, guests enjoyed hors d'oeuvres and refreshments expertly prepared by DCTS Culinary students. The program featured guest speakers, including Kate McGeever, Director of Delaware County’s Office of Workforce Development; Jeremy L. Miller from the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Bureau of Career and Technical Education; and DCTS students Kayla Miller and Will Junod.
Stacy Delaney, Director of DCIU and DCTS’s Practical Nursing Program joined the celebration, highlighting the success and impact of the one-year nursing program, which fosters excellence and prepares students for careers in the nursing profession.
The celebration also highlighted strong partnerships with business and industry leaders including Wallworks Inc. and KML Transport which play a critical role in preparing a skilled workforce.
DCIU and DCTS were honored to receive a proclamation from Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, a recognition from State Senator Tim Kearney, and a House Citation presented by State Representatives Leanne Krueger and Heather Boyd in recognition of CTE Month. These recognitions serve as a testament to DCIU and DCTS’s dedication to education and workforce development, reinforcing the message that career and technical education is a viable and valuable path for many students.
"With the growing demand for skilled professionals, Career and Technical Education is more vital than ever. Our programs provide students with hands-on training, industry-recognized certifications, and real-world learning experiences, equipping them for long-term success while meeting the evolving needs of today’s workforce,” said DCIU Executive Director, Dr. Maria Edelberg. “CTE empowers individuals to build successful careers while driving innovation and economic growth."
Between its Folcroft and Aston campuses, DCTS serves 1,300 students from fifteen school districts. To ensure students get the most relevant and up-to-date education, DCTS’ CTE programs are annually reviewed by business and industry partners.
