The Delaware County Intermediate Unit (DCIU) is a regional educational service agency located in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Established in 1971 under an act of the Pennsylvania General Assembly, it is one of twenty-nine intermediate units in the state. DCIU provides leadership to programs and services that are designed to be both high-quality and cost-effective. Its mission focuses on innovation and responsiveness to the educational needs of students, educators, and communities throughout the county. DCIU plays a critical role in supporting public education through collaboration, capacity building, and the delivery of specialized services. Governance of DCIU is provided by a Board of Directors composed of one school board member from each of the fifteen public school districts in Delaware County, elected by their peers across the region.
DCIU serves fifteen public school districts, three charter schools, and more than fifty private and parochial schools. DCIU supports over sixty-nine thousand students and approximately six thousand educators. Its programs extend across all age groups and educational levels, from early childhood through adult education. Services include special education, career and technical education, adult education, professional development, early childhood programs, and supports for English learners. DCIU also manages lending libraries for assistive technology and instructional tools and coordinates countywide events. In addition to serving schools, DCIU provides services to governmental agencies, municipalities, and other community and business stakeholders. The organization offers a wide range of entrepreneurial ventures, including information technology solutions, business services, human resources support, and other customized services designed to meet the evolving needs of its partners.
The Executive Director of the Delaware County Intermediate Unit serves as the Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for implementing DCIU’s mission, vision, and strategic goals. The successful candidate will be a forward-thinking, collaborative, and entrepreneurial leader with a strong commitment to public education and a demonstrated ability to manage complex educational systems. The next Executive Director will be expected to continue to grow DCIU’s offerings and increase revenue-generating opportunities to ensure sustainability and innovation. This is a unique opportunity to lead an organization with a long-standing history of service, creativity, and impact, and to shape the future of education for thousands of students and educators across Delaware County.
