Throughout the spring of each school year, DCIU holds a number of student competitions in a range of subject areas. Student compeititions enhance learning through improving teamwork and collaboration, enhancing social and emotional learning, and increasing student motivation.
Reading OlympicsReading Olympics is a year-long competition for students in grades 4-12. Students read 40 books throughout the year with a culminating game-show style event at the end of the year bringing together teams from across the county.
Scripps Spelling Bee
The Annual Delaware County Intermediate Unit Spelling Bee takes place in the early Spring of each year. The champion of this spelling bee represents the Delaware County area in the 2019 Scripps National Spelling Bee near Washington, D.C.
In addition to improving students' spelling skills and increasing their vocabularies, spelling bee participation provides valuable experience in developing poise - a necessary skill for success in public speaking, performing arts, and athletics.
The 24 Challenge is a tournament-style competition organized around the 24 Game. Millions of students in more than 20 countries have participated since 1988. The competition will be entering its fifth year at DCIU in 2019.
