Delaware County Reading Council
Dear DCRC Members,
Our 2nd annual All Delco Reads project was a success! Approximately 50 schools registered for the themed project Life is a Journey of Lessons Learned. Schools and libraries sent pictures of their culminating activities to DCRC’s web page (thanks to DCRC board member Denise King). Some certificates of participation were mailed out; others were delivered to school representatives in person. DCRC board member and chair of the Community Literacy Community, Dr. Susan Kulp of Ridley School District, discussed the project at the January meeting of the Delaware County Council in Media. The Council provided Dr. Kulp with a resolution for DCRC which she presented to the board at our February 11th meeting. There will definitely be plans for the 3rd annual project for the 2016-2017 academic year.
Our spring dinner meeting (April 21, 20156 at DiFabio’s Restaurant on Rt. 252 in Media) will feature Lynne Dorfman and Diane Dougherty, co-authors of Grammar Matters. Registration forms have been sent electronically to all school districts; forms are also available on our web site.
The Nicholas A. Spennato Young Authors Conference is planned for May 11th at Northley Middle School in Aston. Entries are being submitted at this time and will be scored on March 15th. Schools will be notified of winners; winners and their families (and their teachers) will receive an invitation to the conference. Each winner will receive a bound anthology of this year’s winning pieces and an individual certificate of recognition.
Recently, the bylaws of DCRC were revised and updated. The bylaws are available on our web site. The DCRC board is busy assembling a program of events for the 2016-2017 academic year. We hope that you will seek out the events on our web page, attend events, and participate in the programs. We need each and every member to keep DCRC vital.
Have a wonderful spring! Best wishes always.President, DCRC
