Throughout each school year, DCIU holds a number of student competitions and events in a range of subject areas. Student competitions enhance learning through improving teamwork and collaboration, enhancing social and emotional learning, and increasing student motivation.
Delaware County Science and Engineering Fair
Each year, students in Delaware County are involved in sophisticated research projects that focus on science topics in a variety of categories. The Delaware County Science Fair embraces a philosophy that students learn science by doing science.
Grade range: 6-12
The Governor's Office and the Pennsylvania Department of Education present an annual themed competition focused on exposing students to STEM related jobs, skills, and concepts.
Grade range: 9-12
At the Hackathon, students will be confronted with a real-world problem that requires collaboration and innovation to develop creative solutions.

The Making a Difference Awards are an annual event sponsored by Delaware County's Right to Education. Local Task Force. The event recognizes outstanding individuals who champion inclusion.
PA Media and Design Competition
The PA Media and Design Competition is an annual event that highlights Pennsylvania students' application skills, creativity, and knowledge. Students are able to unleash their creativity, learn how to convey information more dynamically, and enhance the learning process.
Grade range: 6-12
Reading Olympics is a year-long competition for students in grades 4-12. Students read 40 books throughout the year with a culminating game-show style event at the end of the year bringing together teams from across the country.

The annual Delaware County Intermediate Unit Spelling Bee takes place in the early spring of each year. The champion of the spelling bee represents the Delaware County area in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
In addition to improving students' spelling skills and increasing their vocabularies, spelling bee participation provides valuable experience in developing poise - a necessary skill for success in public speaking, performing arts, and athletics.
Grade range: K-8
Students are given a theme and challenged to build an object within that theme using K'NEX building materials. At the challenge, they will present a narrative report, submit blueprints/cost sheets, and build their object within an certain time limit.
Grade range: 4-8
