History
One of the oldest councils in the United States, the Delaware County Reading Council, organized in 1963, has met monthly since then. The council examines issues of literacy and organizes literacy activities for educators, pupils, and other adults.
Chartered through IRA in 1964, DCRC has been an honor council of IRA several times. DCRC has maintained a close relationship with Delaware County Intermediate Unit #25. DCRC Board Meetings have been held at DCIU since the Council originated. The most current assistance from DCIU is the hosting of the DCRC website. |
Mission
It is the mission of the Delaware County Reading Council to promote literacy in schools and in the community by supporting international, national, state, and local literacy efforts. We provide educators, pupils, and other adults with opportunities to participate in sponsored events, which heighten interest and promote skills in the teaching of reading and writing.
