Using Technology Effectively in the Curriculum An important component of improving the quality of teaching is the teacher's abilities to integrate technology effectively into standards-based curricula and instruction. In order to understand how to infuse technology throughout the curriculum and in every classroom, teachers need models to guide them as well as professional development to give them the tools and the support they need. Recently the Chester, Delaware , and Montgomery County Intermediate Units were awarded a grant to support this endeavor--the Aligning Curriculum to Standards in Pennsylvania (ACTS) Grant. While a part of this grant was used to conduct professional development leading to the integration of technology by teachers on a regular basis, another part of it was used to develop and host a database of instructional lesson plans created by the teachers in the program, and to produce video segments that include interviews with teachers who use technology effectively in instruction with their students. The website contains links to the instructional lesson plan database, the Core Teaching Skills for an Information Age web site of materials used as a framework for professional development by Pennsylvania teachers, and the ACTS in PA grant web site. The grid provides links to the video segments. |
