DCRO UPDATES! May 15, 2013 Thank you to everyone for your hard work and cooperation this year. The competition continues to grow as more students, schools and districts participate. This year we had 12 school disticts and the Archdiocese, 54 individual schools, 129 teams, 258 adult volunteers, and approximately 1300 students. Thank you all for making this event such a tremendous success. Thank you also to Marple Newtown for your gracious hospitality. Now because it is never to late to start planning the 2013-14 book lists are included. (Look in the pannel to the left). As soon as we have confirmation we will post dates and location for next year's event. Below is a link to the document that details which night each school will be competing. Please contact me if you have any questions. To the left are links to important information including last night's powerpoint. Finally below is the link to fully register for this year's competition. At the beginning of each week starting with Monday January 28 I will e-mail the building coordinators of registered teams further details to pay and complete registration. Registration: The full registration is open now and will remain open until Friday, March 1st at 9:00 AM. January 15, 2013 Building Coordinators' Meeting: The meeting will be at DCIU in Morton on January 22nd from 3:30-5:00. At this time we will provide specific information on which schools and levels will be competing on which nights as well as a review of the competition rules and guidelines. In addition we will unveil the winner of the Reading Olympics logo contest. Registration: The full registration will open on January 23 and will remain open until Friday, March 1st at 9:00 AM.

Remember, ELEMENTARY NIGHT is MONDAY, MAY 9 and SECONDARY NIGHT (Middle and High) is TUESDAY, MAY 10. SVHS room map. These are the rooms that will be used for the competition. Where's My Olympian? Parent Cards. These cards can be given out in advance of the competitions to assist parents/guardians/visitors in finding their favorite Reading Olympians during the event nights. The 2010-11 Reading Olympics lists have been updated--an alternate selection on the elementary list (The Underneath by Kathi Appelt) has been deleted from the elementary list as it was only intended to be a replacement title. To clarify, The Underneath should NOT be included as part of the 45 books on the Elementary book list. The Middle and High School lists remain the same--download the lists from the links to the left to be certain you have the most up-to-date, corrected versions for 2010-11. As per popular request, all 3 lists are also now available in an Excel spreadsheet. Click on the link to the left to download all 3 lists in a spreadsheet format.

Our final events are just one week away! As promised, here are the finalized competition schedules. There were no substantive changes (i.e. the scheduel is still the same), just some names added where there were none or changes in team personnel.

Final mailings for teams participating in the 2010 Reading Olympics events went out last Thursday, April 16. One packet of information was sent to each building registered for the competition. If your building has multiple levels, you should receive information for both the elementary and secondary events.

OFFICIAL REGISTRATION for the 2010 Delaware County Reading Olympics is now CLOSED. If you completed the official registration process through DCIU's CourseWhere system, you should have received email confirmation and a follow-up email with a link to submit team/teacher information that will be used to generate our competition schedules for the final RO events in May. If you did not register through CourseWhere or did not receive the follow-up email please contact Mike Webb as soon as possible.

Yesterday the 2010-11 Reading Olympics Book Selection Committee met to revise book lists for Reading Olympics events next year. It was a wonderful gathering of teachers, administrators, and librarians from throughout the region! DCIU greatly appreciates the support from this dedicated group of reading professionals--their work will soon be finalized and the 2010-11 book lists made available. In the meantime, if you would like to serve as a Volunteer Reader, please complete this form and return it to Mike Webb ( mkwebb@dciu.org) by May 28, 2010. Volunteer Readers will read books from the 2010-11 book lists and generate 5 questions from each to be used in the final RO events of 2011. Questions will need to be submitted by August 31, 2010.

In 2010-2011, Delaware County will be responsible for handling the book selection and question-writing for the 4-county Reading Olympics consortium. This means that the Book Selection Committee will be revising book lists and writing questions to be used for Reading Olympics events in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties! JANUARY 2010 We've now received pre-registration information from 95 teams and nearly 1,200 students! We've set our meeting date for the Building Coordinators' meeting--the meeting will be held at DCIU in Morton on... THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2010 at 3:30 PM ALL READING OLYMPICS BUILDING COORDINATORS MUST ATTEND THIS MEETING! (even if you came last year....) We will be providing an overview of this year's events, describing the roles that all teacher sponsors must be prepared to fill, determining deletions from this year's book lists, and discussing some tips and tricks that we've learned since our first experience with RO last year! Another important point we'll address is Delaware County's responsibility in developing the 2010-2011 Reading Olympics book lists and competition questions. The 2010-11 Book Selection Committee will be choosing books and writing questions for Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties!!!
